The EAC RCE recently concluded visits to various institutions in the United Republic of Tanzania (URT), aiming to establish partnerships with regional key players in the field of vaccine development. Led by the Centre’s Director, Dr. Stephen Karengera, the team engaged with key institutions to explore potential collaborations in Vaccines, Immunization, and Health Supply Chain Management.
On July 1st, the RCE team visited Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof. Appolinary A.R. Kamuhabwa, the Ag DVC Academics Prof. Emmanuel Balandya, the DVC Planning, Admin & Finance, Prof. Erasto V. Mbugi & the Ag Dean School of Pharmacy. Discussions focused on enhancing capacity building, research, and technical assistance initiatives.
Continuing this outreach, on July 2nd, the RCE team visited Hester Biosciences Africa in Dar es Salaam, emphasizing future collaborations in student attachments, training, and biomanufacturing research.
Further cementing ties, the RCE team met with Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) on July 5th and held discussions with Director General Dr. Adam M. Fimbo on joint efforts in healthcare supply chain management and vaccine research.
The collaborative efforts extended to Zanzibar, where meetings with the Zanzibar Food and Drug Agency (ZFDA) and Zanzibar Health Research Institute (ZAHRI) on July 8th and 9th explored partnerships in research and capacity building.
On July 10th, the RCE team visited Kairuki Pharmaceuticals Industry Ltd. (KPIL) and on July 11th, engaged with Shelys/Aspen Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant and the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), focusing on educational collaborations and research initiatives.
The RCE’s engagement with URT institutions concluded on July 12th with a visit to the Medical Stores Department (MSD), further solidifying commitments to enhance healthcare logistics and student development.
The RCE is currently working to solidify partnerships with these institutions through the signing of MoUs, emphasizing opportunities in capacity building, research, and student field attachments.
