73 new students from across the East African Community (EAC) Partner States joined the University of Rwanda EAC RCE-VIHSCM to begin their academic year 2024-2025 in two prestigious programs; the Master’s in Health Supply Chain Management (MHSCM) Cohort 7 and the MSc. in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance (MPAQA) Cohort 2.

The students kicked off their journey with an orientation session, held at the University of Rwanda main campus in Kigali, from November 18-22, 2024. The orientation, dubbed induction week, aimed at familiarizing the students with university life, featured sessions on effective learning strategies, academic support, and provided an overview of key administrative processes at the University.

Dr. Umuhoza Karemera, UR’s Director of Post Graduate Studies, Mr. Pascal Kiiza, Registrar at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (UR-CMHS), and Mr. John Mugarura, Director of Teaching and Learning Enhancement at UR-CMHS provided important insights into the resources available to help students succeed.

“We are happy to have engaged 44 students in the Master’s in Health Supply Chain Management and 29 students in MSc. in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance from different EAC Partner States on UR’s postgraduate academic regulations. We wish them success in their studies,” said Pascal Kiiza, UR-CMHS Registrar.

Following the induction, the students moved on to the academic phase of their programs. MHSCM students engaged in two weeks of face-to-face lectures for Semester one, while MPAQA students embarked on a three-week schedule, including introductions to semester one modules and practical lab work.

In acknowledgment of the fact that most students are from outside Rwanda, the Centre also organized a visit to some sites in Kigali, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This provided the students with a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s history and its vision for the future.

With the support and guidance of faculty, staff, and peers, the new students are set to embark on their academic journeys, fully equipped for success.
